Ceramic cartridge stems operate with ceramic plates, not washers like commonly used.
Because internal ceramic plates move to control the water flow, not exterior o-rings, and the unit must be replaced.
Wide-spread faucets can be a problem for removing a cartridge.
And check to see if long or short stemmed when replacing.
