Light switch plate screws sometimes are not the right length for the electrical plate to fit snug to the wall. Try placing some tubing in the space.
Use 1/4-inch I.D. surgical tubing to space between the switch and the electrical box. Cut a piece of vinyl tubing a smidgen longer than the space from the wall to the recessed electrical box. Slide it over the 6/32-inch switch screw that holds the switch to the box.
While you are tightening the switch to the wall, the tubing will compress and allow you to position the switch even with the wall. Now you will not need to use extra long switch plate screws.
