Materials – paper towels, screwdriver, wiping stain, clamps, wood filler, wood glue, brush.
The gluing repair with Titebond carpenter’s glue and Jorgensen clamps took 30 minutes, mostly set-up time because the attached parts are fixed in 5 minutes. Clean off the glue.
Staining the next day took another 30 minutes. It is easy to want to rush, but the heavy stain needs some little time to be absorbed into the glued crack. Using Zar or Old Masters wiping stains ensures the results you want. Do not use a penetrating stain. The Color Putty wood filler goes quickly.
